I AM COLOR

The whole display that goes by the same name as the self-portrait,  I Am Color, is what I would describe almost a mosaic of all the different experiences and memories people have gone through. If I had more time to work on this project, I would have added a small illustration/symbolism that expresses how a certain color could represent another emotion, different from my main one. Maybe even adding in memories of mixed colors, or delving more into how that would work. The possibilities with this project are almost endless, as the topic is so vague and broad.

As for the final display, I thrifted all my frames to create that family gallery wall where people walk in and see a wall full of family memories. However, not all my work was framed, but I included two acrylic paintings as well as a self-made clock. I believe that all of these best showcase that familiar and homey feeling that one's parent/s tried to create during their childhood. I knew that if I just bought newer and more modern-looking frames, I would not achieve the feeling that I wanted to achieve. There is so much personality in each frame, and adding the artwork to them creates a whole new feeling; it completes the work.

I AM COLOR BFA Exhibition

My Self-Portrait was one that, from the beginning, I knew what I wanted. I wanted this self-portrait to be the center of the whole piece as a display. I have blues that were used in Serene Scene, Yellows used in On the Spot, Purple from The Weight of Change, and green from Envy Hour.  It represents how, as a person, you can not genuinely be represented by one color; you can have a favorite or one that you feel best describes you, However, everyone is a combination of all the colors and emotions they have felt and experienced in their life. I am Color, that is, that representation.

I wanted my whole project to be interactive. I wanted to express that I think I am a specific color due to my personality. Would it not be interesting to see if others have those opinions about themselves? OR do others have a specific memory or emotion they associate with a color?

That is when I went out looking for pure white sticky notes; these sticky notes were a great blank slate and would allow colored pens to shine bright. This created the interactive element I wanted to have since the beginning of the semester, when I genuinely began to develop this idea. Looking back on all these sticky notes that people contributed, I am glad it was added, as some people seemed to have created really good memories.
